Lasers and intense pulsed light (IPL) equipment are used for a wide variety of treatments within clinics and beauty salons. To use this technology effectively and safely a high level of skill is needed.
Are you using a Class 3B or Class 4 Laser, or an IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)?
If so you must have the following produced by a Certificated Laser Protection Adviser (LPA):
- Risk Assessment
- Local Rules
All operators using Lasers and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) equipment must have training as follows:
- Core of Knowledge Safety Training
- Manufacturer / Clinical Training
Treatment aspects of laser & IPL safety to be considered include:
- Contra-indications
- Delicate anatomy / inappropriate treatment sites
- Drug-induced photosensitivity
- Eye damage
- Hyper-pigmentation
- Hypo-pigmentation
- Purpura
- Scarring
- Skin burns
- Unrecognised malignancies (or premalignant conditions) at the treatment site
